Football Equipment

Equipment

TVS Wee Panthers will furnish the following:

  • Helmet - Issued the first night.
  • mouthpiece - Issued the first night. *** NOTE we will buy one and only one mouthpiece per player. If a mouthpiece becomes lost or no longer usable, it is responsibility of the parent to replace it at Kmart/Walmart/etc.
  • shoulder pads - Issued before contact.
  • 1 pair white practice pants + hip, thigh, and knee pads; 1 pair red game pants. - Issued before contact.
  • Players will purchase a game jersey - it is red, has "SOUTH" across the front, numbers front and back (cost will be $25 according to Capitol Varsity). They will be issued once the jersey fee is paid. This jersey belongs to the player and can be used next year.
  • Equipment care: Jersey - hang up your jersey to dry. An overly hot dryer can damage the lettering. We will wear the game Jerseys to school on Fridays, otherwise do not let them wear the jerseys to play in, etc. You can get your players last name printed on the back if you like at any of the local sports shops - Richards Jackets, Kesslers, etc. It's a good idea to get a plastic tub from like kmart, target, etc. Then keep your players equipment in the tub, it helps to keep everything together so that you do not have to hunt around for missing pads. Helmets - do not put unapproved stickers on the helmet - it can void the warranty. Also equipment is to worn during practices and games only. Players should not wear helmets or pads in their yards when they are horsing around. All of the other equipment, except the jersey, is to be turned in at the end of the season.

    Player furnished equipment.

Parents - This is a list of things that your player can get now. I noted whether the item is needed or optional.

  • Protective cup and athletic supporter: Required by league rule.
  • Physical Required - All players need to have a physical from a doctor. Physical Form - click this link to pull up the form, print it, and take to appointment. Parents fill out the first section, the second section is to be filled out by the physician.
  • Water bottle: Needed - Bring a water bottle to practice.
  • Spikes: Strongly suggested - Rubber soled (no metal tips) spikes. It is difficult to play with tennis shoes, so a good football shoe is a must.
  • Practice Jersey: Required - Players will need a practice jersey to wear over their pads- this could just be one of Dad's old t-shirts. You don't need to go out and buy one. Do not wear your game jersey to practice.
  • Practice pants: Optional. If you want to buy a seperate pair of pants and keep the pants we issue for game day that is up to you.
  • Arm pads/hand/elbow pads. Optional. If you want to get these for your player it's fine. Hand pads must be certified - they should be stamped. Cut off gloves used as hand pads are illegal.
  • Flak Jacket/back protector - Optional. These protect the mid section and the back. They aren't too expensive.
  • Recievers Gloves - Optional. I am from the old school, I like bare hands. But if your player wants to wear receivers gloves, this is OK. I don't think the referee's are too strict at this level, but if I remember correctly, by rule these need to be certified by the federation too.
